Grand Day Out With Winning Double

Dec 22, 2018

Grand Syndicates had a day out at Yarra Valley on Friday, winning two races and finishing second in another from three starters.

All three were trained by John Price at Cranbourne and it was Royal Volley who got the ball rolling in the fifth race on the card. After racing consistently this prep without winning, he jumped from the outside gate in the 1950m event. With jockey Harry Grace aboard, he cruised across to sit outside the leader and at the 600m mark, Grace urged him on to take on the leader Scallop who fought valiantly however Royal Volley put the race away at the 200m where he sprinted away to win by 2 and quarter lengths. It was the third career win for the son of former top 3 year old Viscount and he took his prizemoney to over $70,000.

In the very next race, Price saddled up Second Marriage and again Harry Grace was the pilot. She jumped well from her middle gate and then sat fourth one off the fence. Grace had her settled well and at the 600m he began to urge her along. She showed a good turn of foot up the straight to score her 3rd career win by three and a quarter lengths. The former $18,000 buy is by handy sire Reset and her winnings now total almost $70,000.

Veteran Grand Syndicates mare Tykiato ran in the following race, and in a gallant effort, finished a close second after being given a great ride by apprentice Alana Kelly, recording her seventh career placing to go with her impressive 7 wins, and a total of close to $250,000 in earnings, not bad for a horse with a $6,500 purchase price!
