Zoffany's Lad Gets Hat Trick

Oct 07, 2018

Exciting prospect Zoffany's Lad continued his hot form on Saturday, completing a hat trick of wins with another stylish performance.

Lining up for just his sixth start, the Grand Syndicates' gelding recorded his third win on the trot in a 1500m Class 3 at Port Macquarie. Despite racing out of his grade, coming back in distance and being on a wet track for the first time in his career, he still managed a win under yet another 10/10 Ben Looker ride, who has been on board for all three wins and was quoted as saying after the race "you won't get me off this horse with a crowbar". Racing on the inside the majority of the trip, Looker took no risks as he angled out to make his run approaching the turn and Zoffany's Lad did the rest, scoring by around 3/4 of a length

His record this prep now reads 4 starts for 3 wins and a most unlucky second. All from a horse who, only two months ago, had to trial to stewards' satisfaction in order to overcome a ban from racing for poor manners. Trainer Grant Allard and his team have worked wonders on him, spending countless hours correcting his behaviour that was so bad Allard had trouble finding a rider to partner him in his morning work. In fact, in almost ten years of training, no horse has pushed Allard's patience or had as much time invested in it as Zoffany's Lad has, and all credit goes to Grant and his team for the results we are seeing on the track.

The former $17,500 purchase has now banked almost $40,000 in prizemoney, and if his form this prep continues wherever he is produced next, that tally is sure to grow.
