The Man's mighty third in Group 2 Hollindale

May 05, 2018

Team Grand's star Queenslander Man Of His Word produced the best performance of his career when a fast-finishing third in today's Group 2 $358,000 Hollindale Stakes (Race 8-1800m) at Gold Coast.

The Bruce Hill-trained five-year-old was considered one of the outsiders of the field ($71 to $51) under the weight-for-age conditions, however, he defied market expectations to storm home from 10th on the turn and overcome traffic issues in the straight to finish 2-1/4 lengths from the winner Oregon's Day, with proven Group 1 performer Tom Melbourne in second.

Man Of His Word, who was purchased for $10,000 as a yearling back in 2014, banked $37,590 for today's minor placing but more importantly confirmed the Hill stable's long held belief that he would successfully stretch out to the 1800 to 2000-metre distance range, and that he is more than capable of matching motors with some big guns in the Group 1 $650,000 Hardy Brothers-Doomben Cup (WFA-2000m) at Doomben on Saturday May 19.
