'The Man' set to give Weetwood a shake

Apr 06, 2018

Grand Syndicates' star Queenslander Man Of His Word is read to let rip when he steps out second up in Saturday's listed $150,000 Audi Centre Toowoomba-Weetwood Handicap (Race 8-1200m) at Toowoomba.

The Bruce Hill-trained five-year-old produced an eye-catching effort when beaten only a half-length first up in the Goldmarket Handicap (1200m) at Gold Coast on March 17 and is expected to improve with that solid hit out under his belt.

Man Of His Word will be making his first appearance at Toowoomba, and is likely to face tough opposition from the likes well-fancied locals Mr Marbellouz, Amanaat and Ruettiger. However, the 2016 Brisbane Handicap winner and multiple stakes-placed son of Lope De Vega is all class, and with clear galloping room in the straight should be charging home and making his presence felt.

The Man's exciting stablemate Gun Bolt will also get a crack in a feature race at Toowoomba when taking his place in the $75,000 Moore Trailers-Toowoomba Guineas (Race 6-1625m).

The well-regarded three-year-old made up a stack of late ground when resuming against the older horses over 1300 metres at Gold Coast on March 17, but is being set a task taking on some particularly exciting youngsters in Zofonic Dancer, Hang and Trommelschlagen.

It will be a good test for Gun Bolt to see how he lines up against his own age group and a positive result could see him target some more quality races over the fast approaching Queensland autumn/winter carnival.
