High Sierra dominant at The Valley

Mar 17, 2018

Grand Syndicates Victorian-based three-year-old High Sierra ended her campaign on a high with a decisive win in the Ladbrokes Friday Night Lights Handicap (Race 3-2040m) at Moonee Valley last night.

The Luke Oliver-trained filly, who was coming off a strong maiden victory at Terang on March 1, was set alight by the in-form Daniel Moor passing the 800-metre mark, circling the field to be in the firing line on straightening, before drawing clear late to score by 2-1/2 lengths.

High Sierra, a $25,000 purchase at the 2015 New Zealand Bloodstock Festival Yearling Sale, will now more than likely head to the paddock for a well-earned rest, with the Oliver stable confident she will come back bigger and better next preparation.

The daughter of Redwood, a 2400-metre Group 1 winning son of High Chaparral, came into her own when stepping up into the middle-distance range this campaign and looks a stayer with a very bright future, having now recorded two wins and a placing from only five starts, with $44,330 in the bank.
