Media Maid does it again #16in16
Nov 12, 2016
Gold Coast-based Media Maid completed another successful hit-and-run mission across the New South Wales border with a barnstorming victory in the Ballina Advocate Handicap (Race 5-1005m) at Ballina yesterday.
The Bruce Hill-trained five-year-old, who saluted at the same venue 11 days earlier, was sent out a $3.50 favourite and didn't let her supporters down, despite encountering some difficulties in running.
Ridden by Matt McGuren, Media Maid travelled three-wide in the early stages after jumping from barrier seven, before being forced even wider when in seventh position swinging for home on the tight Ballina turn. The daughter of Publishing copped a nasty bump 150 metres out, but was still good enough to balance up, dig in and dive late to claim With A Promise and win by a nose (click here to watch replay) with 60kg on her back.
"She's going really good the mare ... she's just really bloomed the last couple of months," Bruce Hill said post race.
"He (McGuren) did a good job and had to ride her a bit different today. I wasn't worried too much about the extra weight (60kg) just as long as she got a good run.
"She can run on well late, she's always been able to it too. She's just got to have things right for her."
Media Made is in scintillating form, having won three and been placed at three of her past six starts, and the $8000 yearling purchase took her total earnings (including bonuses) beyond $84,000 with yesterday's triumph.
"That win today was huge," Grand Syndicates Racing Manager Sam Lyons said.
"She's carried 60kg, had a tough run, but the way she let down today was very, very good.
"She's been fantastic this prep and keeps going from strength to strength. While the benchmark races are there across the border for us we're pretty happy sneaking across to pick up some of that good NSW prizemoney."
